August 3, 1975: "Authorities are investigating the death of William N. Bruce, 38, Polson, whose body was found in the Gem Peak Lookout station in the Cabinet Creek Ranger District.

.....Bruce was an employee of the Kootenai National Forest and had worked in the Cabinet Ranger District for four years. The Gem Peak station is near the Idaho border south of Noxon.

.....Sanders County Sheriff A.H. Cheney said Forest Service officials went to the isolated lookout station Tuesday after Bruce failed to answer radio messages."
